Signup for the fourth Dalmatia Wine Expo has started

Organizers of the leading Dalmatian eno-gastro festival, Dalmatia Wine Expo, have opened the application process for participating in this year’s, fourth in a row, festival that will be held in Makarska on the 3rd and 4th of May 2013.

On this weekend Makarska is traditionally frequented by a large number of tourists (1 May – Labor Day), and this time the city will once again become the gathering site for wine, food and art enthusiasts. Dalmatia Wine Expo 2013 is a new opportunity for presenting Croatian wines and gastronomy specialties to the locals and to tourists, and for inspiring the branding of Croatia as a must-visit eno-gastro destination.

In the opinion of many exhibitors and wine producers, in these four years Dalmatia Wine Expo has established itself as one of the three strongest eno-gastro festivals in Croatia. Based on the interest it attracted in the previous years, a record-breaking number of exhibitors, over 150 of them are expected, making this year’s festival the largest yet.  This year, wine producers will once again present their wines personally, and along with wine tasting, visitors will be able to enjoy various gastronomic specialties.

This year, a stronger accent is placed on the business side of the festival. We are creating a platform that will result in even more business deals, as Dalmatia Wine Expo is an ideal opportunity for caterers to see and taste the entire Dalmatian wine scene display in one place, along with the best wines from other parts of Croatia, and to expand their wine lists. It is our goal to provide caterers with the opportunity to try new vintages each year, to taste some lesser known varieties and find out something new that will inspire them to refresh their wine lists more often.

To provide visitors with plenty of interesting content, we have planned a series of attractive workshops, round tables and eno-gastro educations with top Croatian and international winemakers and sommeliers. Organizers seek to inspire development and sharing of eno-gastronomy knowledge and by organizing such side-events they strive to additionally strengthen the reputation of one of the central places where wine and gastronomy experts and enthusiasts come together

“Perfect Match”, an innovative way to evaluate wines, has yielded excellent reactions in wine circles, and will once again be the central event at the festival. The managers of Dalmatian restaurants and media representatives will evaluate wines based on wine pairing with the typical Dalmatian gastronomy offer.

“Culinary Stars” event has been quite successful and has left both, participants and visitors, very pleased. On the day of the event a table more was sought and almost all restaurants were fully booked by noon. Five top Croatian chefs and five leading Makarska restaurants that played hosts to the chefs have made it possible for visitors to enjoy top gastronomy at affordable prices.

Dalmatian Varieties Theatre is a new side-event and a unique opportunity to provide visitors with a comprehensive overview of Dalmatian wines. The overview will include some 30 Dalmatian varieties, from the most famous Plavac and Pošip, the varieties that are quite unfamiliar but are present in everyday use such as Plavina and Maraštine, to endemic varieties such as Gegić, Medna or Dobričić. Theatre will include some completely new, recently developed varieties, such as Plavac mali sivi, that will be presented for premiere tasting.

Save for promotion of wine culture and enriching Croatian gastronomy scene, it is important to accent that one of the main goals of Dalmatia Wine Expo is to point to the necessity of continuous education of the catering sector and to create a modern program that will introduce those attending seminars to global experiences. Our festival has also been labeled “The most charming wine festival” due to the fact that we pay special attention to many side-events.
