Asparagus Days in Istria

From March 24th to May 15th restaurants of northwest Istria will lure you in with the scent of asparagus and the warmth of Istrian hospitality.

Seventh Asparagus Days in Istria will enable all gourmands who appreciate asparagus to enjoy imaginative, tasty and fragrant delicacies in March, April and May. These delicacies will be prepared from the Istrian wild asparagus, most popular being omelets (fritaje), soups, homemade pasta and various types of risotto, and some less known but skillful combinations with meat and fish, as well as deserts.   

Asparagus is one of the most precious wild plants that grow inIstria and it is picked from mid March to the end of April. It grows in areas that are not very accessible, often protected by prickly bushes. To pick it, one needs to have hawk eye precision and iron will and must be ready for a scratch or two.
